The sounds of the establishment only enhance the listeners experience and provide the feel that you are there with us “live.” Each nuance, sound, feel, groove is truly the trio in an exclusive performance for you! Here it is; Live Sessions Volume 08-15-2012.
Album Notes:
Recorded “Live” at Houston’s Restaurant on St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans, Louisiana. Houston’s is part of the Hillstone Restaurant Group of incredible and extremely well run dining establishments. David Hansen has had the honor to have his Garden District Trio perform at Houston’s on St. Charles Ave. in New Orleans for well over six years averaging an amazing five to seven nights a week. The pianists perform on a seven foot Steinway that is hands down one of the best pianos in the city. David performs on his Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute drum set that sat under the waters of Hurricane Katrina for two weeks. This Yamaha drum set not only survived and cleaned up well but most importantly, sounds amazing! The bassists bring in the best of upright wood instruments ranging from newer models to coveted European works of fine craftsmanship that range from 50 to over 100 years in age.
David has the pleasure to provide a blend of the finest musicians available in New Orleans. He has many steady musicians as well as guest performers who come in from all over the country. On this recording David is featuring Eduardo Tozzatto on piano and Nobu Ozaki on bass. These fine gentlemen are true New Orleanians yet bring a unique feel and groove that is part of their worldly background stemming from Brazil and Japan.
Each trio David assembles brings an exceptional and uplifting musical experience to the listener.
As always, Jazz and Latin groove infused the Garden District Trio performs from the Classic American Songbook repertoire with swing, ballad, bossa nova, samba and quasi-rhumba styles with a unique New Orleans feel. The Garden District Trio performs in the style of the incredible, great, swinging piano trios such as; Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Wynton Kelly, Gene Harris, Bud Powell, Ahmad Jamal, McCoy Tyner, Ray Brown, Vernel Fournier, Ed Thigpen, Modern Jazz Quartet and many others.
The Cover for this project is a blended photo that David Hansen shot of St. Charles Avenue utilizing a time exposure and still shot of the same scene. The artistic thought behind this combined photo bring out the best qualities of each image providing a real time feel of the light rain and early evening.
