Live Sessions Volume 07-27-2013

by Garden District Trio

about

Jazz is a musical form born in New Orleans from multiple and diverse cultures with just as many musical and rhythmic nuances. This musical genre was in its infancy and not even named one hundred years ago. It is wonderful to go back one decade at a time and listen to all the variations and creative contributions provided by our favorite artists. It is also an amazing experience to see and hear current artists performing in an intimate setting. Listing to a live band performing music you enjoy with fresh ideas and interesting solos is pure pleasure.
For over seven years and seven nights a week Hansen’s Garden District Trio has featured talented artists in a piano trio setting at the famous Houston’s Restaurant on St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans. Each artist brings in a different sound, feel and groove to their instrument and a level of musicality that is appreciated by the hundreds of guests who listen each night. The music heard on this recording is a combination of varying styles performed instrumentally on a few timeless classics that are gathered from early New Orleans Jazz, the big band era, vocal jazz classics and funky jazz fusion.
Performed with our interpretation of these songs we present Michael Pellera on Piano, Ed Wise on Bass and David Hansen on drums.
